excerpt from the Ancestral Records

Nephilim are half-elven variants of the major ikarian races, gifted with a part of their ikarian half's powers, they are often viewed as the best of both worlds, and are native to Pearalos.

Nephilim are a particularly famous derivative of the elven race, being hybridized with them and one of the many ikarian races; in many ways, they are viewed as an ikarian race themselves, as their planar heritage gives them many special abilities.

Nephilim are one of the most potent elf-related races available, as they gain many powers intrinsic to their planar halves, but this power also makes them rather... valuable, and that carries risks unto itself.

Basic Information

Biological Traits

The nephilim have a significant number of varied traits just based on what kind of ikarian being they are based on. Below is a rough look at some of them.

Angel

Angel nephilim have a pair of angel wings and are typically notable for having a halo, though not always. Beyond that, they're not all that different from traditional elves, though are on the taller side of the nephilim spectrum. Their powers are predominantly divine in nature, drawing upon their divine connection that all angelic beings have. Typically, an angelic nephilim is known as an Anahera.

Daemon

Daemon nephilim have large, leathery bat wings, forked tongues and shorter, yet still thin tails, not unlike devil nephilim. They often have horns as well, though not always, and they typically wield darker magic well and are immune to its detrimental side-effects thanks to their racial passive effects. They are typically the one kind of nephilim that gets shunned and exiled, if not killed, outside of societies that embrace dark magic. Nephilim daemons are typically referred to as Nylaric Daemons - as Nylar is Daemonic for mortal, hence, mortal daemon.

Devil

Devil nephilim are notable for their forked tongues and their long, thin tail, often ending in a flat spade shape of some kind. They often also possess horns of some description, and their powers are themed around the corruptive nature of devils, drawing upon the fell powers of devilkind. Devil nephilim are typically referred to as Drukiin, daemonic for Little Devil.

Faerie

Faerie nephilim have a set of fairy wings and sometimes also a pair of horns - often ram horns - too, and often feature several more bestial features; bestial feet are common, as are patches of fur and the like. Their powers are predominantly nature-related, drawing upon the natural connection to nature that all faeries have. Nephilim faeries go by many monikers, but the most famous is the ever-famous moniker of Satyr.

These nephilim are one of the most famous types, as they were the first to be documented, and the faeries take VERY kindly to them; all of the rulers of the faerie courts are satyrs, and the faerie queen herself has several as her closest advisors.

Genie

Genie nephilim vary quite considerably based on their specific type of genie, but they tend to focus on magical powers revolved around the elemental identity of the genie in question. A genie nephilim is virtually indistinguishable from regular nephilim, though often has some kind of elemental 'tell', such as fiery hair, always being a little wet, and so on. Nobody knows what a wishmaker genie nephilim is like, as there are no records of such a union bearing fruit. Nephilim cannot be bound into a genie vessel, however. Nephilim genies are typically simply referred to as Aheera, which began as a derogative term in the genie tongue for 'lesser genie', referring to their inferior powers.

Genetics & Reproduction

Nephilim are born through unions between elves and the ikarian races, but can continue their lineages through reproduction among themselves or with their ikarian race in their own right. They otherwise function the exact same as a regular elf would, and can reproduce with anything an elf can and have a good chance of passing down their nephilim genetics when they do so. This has resulted in the very rare case here and there of completely distinct races having members with nephilim powers.

Growth Rate & Stages

Nephilim grow at the same rate as elves, but do not start to manifest their actual powers until they are age 100; for some types of nephilim (such as the Aheera), this can completely obscure their nature as nephilim until that point, while for others (the Satyr in particular, but basically all of the others), their nature is very obvious even without their powers having awakened.

Once their powers awaken, the System allows them to take levels in their racial class for the type of nephilim they are (if they are progressing down classes, which most nephilim do).

Additional Information

Origins & Distribution

Nephilim can be found anywhere, but it's believed that the first ones originated in Ranalore, where the planar boundaries of Nyssara overlap with Pearalos and allow the faeries and wood elves to cohabitate and intermingle. It's believed that these relationships that invariably formed led to the first nephilim - the satyrs - and over time, more of them began to pop up as more ikarian races began to mingle with elves.

Average Intellect

The nephilim are generally regarded to be quite intelligent, as they retain much of the intellect of the elves, and in some cases they're even smarter as they're augmented by their planar magic to higher levels of excellence. That said, some nephilim aren't quite as smart as elves, and the aheera are a good example, generally being more on par with humans when it comes to intellect - which is certainly curious, given that genies themselves are famously intelligent, but this is one of the reasons why they refer to genie nephilim as Aheera.

Perception & Sensory Capabilities

The ability for a nephilim to perceive can vary significantly, but the most capable are the satyrs, as they retain the powers of the faeries themselves to sense interlopers within enchanted forests - and normal forested areas. They're actually better at this than faeries are, which is a very notable feat in its own right, though some believe that this is because they have the favour of the faerie queen who empowers their senses. The reality, like many things, is something we may never know.
