Humanity stands as one of the biggest curiosities of Pearalos, and one of its most dangerous races; exiled from Thrain in ancient history - much like the dwarves, though unlike the dwarves their exile has not been lifted - for their part in the Magi Wars and the Godwars, they're a race most natives of Thrain would rather not be reminded of, but their importance cannot be understated.
Humanity is a distant relative of the moon elves, subjects to a divine curse in ancient history for their part in the Godwars and the Magi Wars, both of which revolved around their discovery and practice of dark magic. This is the same exile the dwarves suffered, but while the dwarves withdrew from traditional magic entirely - and eventually had the exile lifted as a result - humanity opted for a different path - the path of doubling down on dark magic and mastering it.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Humans look like shorter, (slightly) less shapely elves, that also lack any form of pointed ears, and indeed, this is due to the fact that humanity derives its origins from the elves, specifically the moon elven faction that was exiled and cursed for their part in the Godwars and Magi Wars.
Biological Traits
As part of their exile, humanity was cursed with mundanity - they lack the elven penchant for magic, any form of being long lived, and pretty much any naturally exceptional trait to start with... though this has also given rise to their variety of developed biological traits. The most famous of these is their version of the adaptability that elves possess; unlike elves, this doesn't significantly change human biology to fit environments, but instead it merely allows them to adapt to, and reside anywhere they settle for multiple generations.
Additional Information
Origins & Distribution
Humanity's root origins are the same as the moon elves - the region of Ranalore, where the moon elves first surfaced - but nowadays, their identity is very much their own, and their 'modern origin' - and the one taught to all human children - is the island of Sarkaz, on the western reaches of Thrain. Generally, humans can also be found in Shirahanai and Salahad, albeit in smaller numbers and typically as part of human colonial possessions. Their ongoing exile prohibits them from being on mainland Thrain and all of Ranalore, under threat of severe punishments.
As an interesting caveat to this, however, there are communities of humans on mainland Thrain and Ranalore, and the reason for this is that the exile often gets lifted for humans that flee Sarkaz for various reasons and are found to not be practicing dark magic.
Average Intellect
Humans have a varied degree of intelligence, but are generally regarded as quite intelligent, though they primarily apply their intellect towards the study and practice of dark magic, and, as their society is so stratified, there is often a significant gulf between the intellect of their elite and the common peasantry, who are far less intelligent.
Civilization & Culture
Major Organizations
Humanity is inexorably tied to the so-called Sarkaz Seven, the seven great human realms that dominate the isle of Sarkaz. In order of most to least influential, these realms are: Kourend, Arenelle, Streosal, Recrua, Asmeris, Ostarea, and Acrania. These realms have not been the only nations humanity has formed historically, but they stand as the current bastions of humanity on the island after centuries of warfare and unification - and indeed, the realms are very much still at odds with one another, but when the survival of humanity is at stake, they invariably put their differences aside and aid one another.
Culture & Cultural Heritage
No discussion of humanity would be complete without discussing the so-called Human Creed - the human doctrine of exceptionalism and excellence in all things. Humanity is not a religious race - they do not assume that gods do not exist (indeed, they are well aware of gods existing), but rather they refuse to venerate gods or recognize their power. Despite this, humanity still has a central clerical organization, their own Oathsworn - the Oathsworn of the Creed - and a central church, the Hellenic Church, named after the moon of Helena.
The human creed is central to this doctrinal clerical organization and the doctrines of the Hellenic Church, and it espouses the concept of human exceptionalism and excellence, as mentioned; the core concept is that humanity cannot rely on the boons of gods and thus must rely on their own experience and expertise to get by, and these concepts are drilled into every human from a young age.
It should, however, be noted that many humans outside of Sarkaz do actually follow traditional divine faiths; the Human Creed is very localized to Sarkaz.
